That's what me and my long-haired freaky people friends used to call the "shit" stage of growing out your hair; it's long enough to get in your way and annoy you, but too short to ponytail or do anything with. Best to just ride it out 'til you reach ponytail length. Yes, easier said than done; you have no idea how many times I wanted to cut it during that stage.

I started growing mine out about 6-7 years ago, now I have thick dreadlocks about 2/3 of the way down my back. I'm probably cutting it as soon as I'm done with grad school and have to face the "real" world...

LOL. My husband had great hair, almost to his waist. Then he finished grad school and had to evolve into Mr. Suit and Tie, so it all went at once. Our kid was pretty little, and he was in shock! (Where's Daddy's hair?!?) Hubby donated his nice thick ponytail to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for kids with cancer. Now he's talked about growing it back, but there's not much left on top to make a long crop anymore! Ah well.

Too bad that, outside of a few parts of the country (and a few professions, like academia or computers), you long-haired guys have to end up looking like Samson after the Corporate/Bureaucratic Delilah gets you :-) Sometimes I see pics of old friends after years and years of not seeing them, and dang, that can be a shock. (He was a skinny guy with long bushy hair! Who the heck is this middle-aged lawyer?!?)

Haha, that is funny! I wish i could donate it, but I'm sure they won't want what inside these things. It can be quite a shock if that is all you have known of a person's look...my GF has only seen me with long hair, and she keeps saying "you're going to look SO WEIRD when you finally cut it!"

I definitely not looking forward to selling out, 'cause I know it will never look like this again. And male pattern baldness runs in my fam, so I'm sure I'd have your husband's problem if I tried haha.

It's sad the assumptions people make about you when you look like this, yet there are some surprisingly tolerant people out there too.

A funny story about that actually: when I was traveling out west a few years ago with my GF's fam we met all sorts of people. A nice older man was asking me about my hair, how long I had it, how I did it, etc. and I was surprised that he wasn't just giving me funny looks. Later in the trip, my GF overhears a middle aged lady say under her breath at me "die you fucking hippie!" LOL
